| March 30th - April 1st 2001What can Moloch say about Atlantacon. Well from what we experienced, the most fun one could have in one weekend in Atlanta. Three days over the April Fools weekend is when se2600 and other groups
gather at the Comfort Inn and do the regular teaching, hacking, panels and other mayhem. Moloch industries will be there in numbers and we will bring down all of our toys to entertain the troops. Update: April 2nd, 2001 3:01 PM ET Diary is below, Pics are located here and video will be posted soon.
We are on the plane now heading back to New York from Atlanta and we are kinda glad to be on our
way back. We did have some fun but there was a lot of work involved. We also missed our first flight out of Georgia.
We left GhstWrtr and AbbyNrml's apartment around 6:00 am and got to the airport in time enough to sit down and have breakfast. The weather was stormy and tommEE hates flying but we were able to get on the plane and only be delayed for 30 minutes. Arrival at the Atlanta Airport was OK and after getting our luggage, we picked up the rental car and headed for the Hotel.
When we got to the hotel, checking in was no problem and we got to see Rhianne in the lobby. We got into our rooms and caught up with Rockit. He told us our boxes were in the hotel office, so we went to retrieve them. We later left to pick up the speakers and amp for the rental place and when we returned rested a bit and got Taco Bell.
We were supposed to have a party in conference room number 7 but a bus load of senior citizens was a
problem for a little while, so Rockit helped us move the party to Conference room 3. We setup the jungle juice cooler, some lights and music and the party started taking shape around 11:00 PM. We were visited by Luminare and Sir Dystic about 11:30 PM and around midnight SD started spinning for the event. We gathered two projectors and started displaying visuals on the wall. It worked out to be a good
event for the Friday night. I was exhausted from having no sleep the night before so I went to bed.
I woke up by Rockit banging on the door about 3:00 PM asking for me to take Ron Gula from Entrasys Dragon for his IDS panel. I ran to the event with a hi-8 camera., tripod and hangover. One unfortunate thing was that there was no network in the immediate area to stream it nor one in our room later, so we
only got to capture the event instead of broadcasting it. After Ron finished his speech, I got ready for Optix and later Sir Dystic's panel.
Optix gave a very technical talk about buffer overflows and provided so much detail that if you didn't take notes, you'll have to buy the rebroadcast. It was enough to make your head hurt, well, that is if you had a hangover. There was about a half-hour before everyone started filling the room for Sir Dystic's panel but
instead of doing his planned panel, he announced a new program he wrote called smbrelay .The program will not be released until Sir Dystic hears back from Microsoft about the problem.
The Moloch crew went out to eat after Sir Dystic's panel and wound up going to Krystal Burger. We wondered how close these burgers were to White Castle back in New York City. Suprisingly there are a lot of similarities. We went to the liquor store to pick up more punch materials and juice then swinging
by the hotel.
Rockit informed us earlier that we were to use the Main Con Room at 8:30 PM to show Cybertraque and later on the Mini-Rave party. We moved the refridgerator and water cooler into the Main Room while the movie was rolling. We also set up the floor full of lights and music. Laughing Boy was there with his high power laser and smart lights. We talked about ideas and decided to kick the party of about midnight.
The party didn't have as many visitors that we thought it would and to our suprise there weren't that many left in the hotel either. We wondered where did they all go, but then again a lot of those people live in the area. We also fried one too many minds the night before. The party ran till about 6 AM, we cleaned up most of the stuff and went to bed.
Later that morning AbbyNrml and GhstWrtr went out to breakfast with Sir Dystic while Luminare had to
fly out earlier. Well, when everyone else seemed active, Rabbit and I slept for hours and hours. We awoke about 8:00 PM sunday night watched TV and packed up some our stuff. We prepared fro our flight the next afternoon after shipping our equipment and returning the rentals.
The next day, Rabbit and myself returned the rentals and went to the shipping place but with unforseen circumstances, we were going to miss our flight. We rescheduled the flight and left two hours later. We
learned some valueble lessons over the weekend and we hope we can avoid them in the future. Some things that didn't help us was waiting for our network in our room and never getting the link, just the wire. We were upset at the turn out on saturday night, while there appeared to be many during the day, they dissappeared later in the evening. We found that we were left off the sponsor page in the program guide
given out. Although there were some problems we had, we enjoyed the fact that Rockit helped us with scheduling problems. Rhia and Dragon were great helping us with projector and monitors we needed. Laughing Boy was great for his help too for the lasers and lights. JonnyX, thanks for helping us with the badges.
Moloch Props to: Rhia, Rockit, JonnyX, HugMe, suspicious.org, HackSec, Sir Dystic, Luminare, Optix, Laughing Boy and everyone else in se2600. |
