Well another Defcon has passed and boy did we have another blast. We were in attendance with only missing two members this time but still seemed to put on a show.
Thursday night we arrived late into the airport, just about 2am. We had to pick up our rental car at Hertz, so we waited at the shuttle pick up stand. We waited about 20 minutes for the mini bus to show and then arrived at the car rental place. We realized after arriving there, we were not the only ones looking for a
car that evening. We reserved a large sedan for the weekend but to our dismay the computers were down causing the line to be an hour long. After about 50 minutes, the computers kicked on and the line moved faster. We got to the counter and requested a larger car and wounded up getting a minivan for not extra charge and unlimted miles.
We arrived at the Alexis Park Hotel about 5am and then checked into our suite
where AbbyNrml and GhstWrtr where alreading sleeping. We had to call down to the front desk and order two rollaway beds because the hotel told us that we would have a fold out couch and didn't. We were all exhausted so we decided to call it a night.
The next morning we awoke about noon and went down to the lobby and then to the front of the hotel to register. I do have to admit that the line was rather threatening but it did move rather faster than one would thought. We got our
badges and proceded to the Vendor area and bumped into some friends and bullshited about the journey over. After an hour or two passed we jumped into the van and headed over to the Rio for the lunch buffet. I highly recommend this buffet if you are there on a Friday. You get everything you can eat for $11.00 and they do have a fantastic variety. I didn't believe how much food they had. We got back to our suite when we could not eat another thing and talked about
having a party to show our appreciation to the attendees of the con. We gathered the Moloch troops and headed out on the town. tommEE pickles the driver had no idea where we were headed but with help of the whole group we got to a department store where we bought sever items and got directions to the nearest liquor store and Walmart. A ton of money later we were on our way to throw our Friday night bash.
Friday night, I guess it was about 8 o'clock, we had everything set up and
AbbyNrml and GhstWrtr were out spreading the word of mouth invites to our friends. 10 minutes later, oh my god, the party definitely begun. So many people I have to thank for attending our event, we loved hosting it. At one point, I think, AbbyNrml brought the accordian player to the party which gave us the greatest entertainment we could ask for. I wish I could only remember the time the party ended the second wave but at that time, a couple of us headed to the
Alexis Park bar where we were taken by suprise to see the movie Takedown playing on the widescreen TV. It happened to be a bookleg from Germany, complete with German subtitles but still quite interesting to see it. After just two drinks I was really ready for bed.
Saturday Morning, waking up about noon again, looking at the room and not seeing too much damage, we were happy. We headed out to see what was
going on at the panel areas and I headed into the bar to check out the wireless LAN connection. After trying out the wireless connection and looking at the speed of it, I was so very impressed. We definitely tip our hats to who set this up. Happy at the LAN connection I chose to hang out in the bar. One hour later, a crowd rushes in to the bar. One of the younger kids says that the CDC thing is so huge that they couldn't get in but they were going to telecast it into the
bar. That was a great idea, with the exception of all of the kiddies now in the bar and we couldn't even get up to get a drink. I guess it was one of the goons to announce that the CDC thing was being broadcasted on channel 9 thoughout the hotel. The wireless LAN went out for a while so I got up and met Rabbit and Anavice back in the suite. I told them about the telecast and we tuned all of the TVs to the channel and watched a majority of panels in the comfort of our own
room. We saw the end of the CDC panel,David J DiCenso, Ian Goldberg, John Q. Newman, and as Ender was about to go on with his panel, Priest came out to do an MC bit and tell everyone about the stupid people damaging the hotel. We in MOloch all agree those who did vandal in any way should be hunted down. Priest polled the crowd on what they would like to see next, more panels or 2600 productions Freedom Downtime. The crowd seened to favor more panelsm so the talks went on.
After talking with Ghstwrtrt and AbbyNrml the group decided that it wouldn't be a totally bad idea to be prepared for another event. So Rabbit, Anavice, Dave and I headed out to dinner. We headed out to the stores right after dinner to get the payload of liquor and beer. Around 11pm we got back to the hotel and found out that there was no ice to be found anywhere on the property. Dave and I headed out to the corner deli and purchased ice but when we got back we had
forgotten the cups. Dave brought the ice inside and I went out for cups, getting back about 1am, we were ready to commence. Within minutes there were knocks at the door and the party officially started. I walked across the hotel property with others to go join phork's social. On the way over we noticed the the DOC had a great party at pool 3. After getting to Phork's place, we dicussed some of the topics from the Black Hat Briefings such as the Checkpoint exploits.
About an hour later we walked back to the Moloch den. It appeared that the DOC party was no longer by the pool. After walking into our suite, it seemed like the Moloch party took off to new heights. The DOC crew joined the Moloch party with more liquor and kegs of beer. The party went on for hours, Razour was spinning and it was getting crowded. Eris came and helped us to hold the renewing of vows between AbbyNrml and Ghstwrtr. It was a great time. Hours
later things got blurry and most of the crowd left, so it was time for bed.
Sunday, waking up way late, I headed down to the convention area. Dave was watching panels in the Uber Haxor area. I talked with Elyn and others in the vendor area. Dave and Anavice came into the vendor area with a bunch of our Unix t-shirts, and set up right next to Hack Sec. The shirts started selling fast, really fast! To prove our entertainment value, AbbyNrml slipped herself into a
Moloch shirt and just her thong. She climbed up on to the table and the bidding started, the prize, to pull off the shirt off of AbbyNrml and keep it. The bidding went up to $45 before we declared the winner which to our suprise was one of Defcon's women attendees. To add to the excitement, the winner with the help of Shipley paid Abby with singles, all placed into her thong. It seemed to please the crowds.
A little later the networks we being taken down, AbbyNrml and GhstWrtr had to catch their flight. The rest of the gang packed up and hung out in our room. We gathered with some folks from Hack Sec, Elyn, and three people from World of Wonder and discussed state of the union issues while eating watermelon. We all said our good-byes and hoped to catch up with each other soon.
